Azure Managed Services & Cost Optimization in Humble

Azure rarely gets expensive on purpose. It gets expensive because nobody owns it after the project ends. Sentinel-Pros takes ownership of the subscription: patching, backup, security posture, alerting, and a monthly review of what you are paying for and why.

The Problem

The Azure bill has grown every quarter and nobody at the company can explain the increase line by line. A consultant built the environment two years ago, sized the virtual machines for a launch that never materialized, and left. Test resources from an old project are still running. Disks that belonged to deleted servers are still charged. Nothing is tagged, so finance cannot tell which department caused which cost, and the owner suspects money is leaking but has no way to prove it. Underneath the cost question is a quieter one: nobody is watching whether those servers are patched, backed up, or exposed to the internet.

The Solution

We take the subscription as it is, not as someone wishes it were. First we get visibility: tagging, a resource inventory, cost allocation by workload, and a security baseline check against Microsoft's own recommendations. Then we right-size, retire what is orphaned, move steady workloads to reserved capacity, and put guardrails in place so a well-meaning employee cannot spin up an expensive resource without anyone noticing. Ongoing operations are remote, with monthly reporting written for an owner rather than an engineer. Humble is inside our Houston service area, so quarterly reviews can happen at your table instead of on a screen. Pricing is a fixed monthly retainer scoped on a discovery call.

HOW IT WORKS

Engagement Process

01

Take Inventory

We map every resource group, subscription, and running service, then match each one to a business purpose. Anything nobody can justify goes on a candidate list for retirement.

02

Baseline and Secure

We assess the environment against Microsoft security recommendations, close public exposure, fix identity gaps, and confirm backups exist and restore cleanly before any cost work begins.

03

Optimize

Oversized resources come down, orphaned disks and idle test systems come out, storage moves to the right tier, and predictable workloads move onto reserved pricing with your approval.

04

Operate and Report

We run the environment month to month, alert on drift and spend, and deliver a report that shows what changed, what it saved, and what needs a decision from you.

FAQ

Common Questions

We already have an internal IT person. Does this replace them?

No. Most Humble companies our size have one capable generalist who does not spend their week in Azure. We handle the cloud platform, the cost governance, and the after hours alerting while your person keeps owning users, devices, and vendors.

How quickly do savings show up?

Orphaned resources and oversized virtual machines can be addressed in the first cycle once you approve the changes. Reserved capacity and architectural changes take longer because they need usage data behind them. We will not promise a number before we have seen your environment.

Our logistics application runs on Azure virtual machines around the clock. Can it be optimized without risk?

Yes, but carefully. Systems supporting airport-adjacent operations near George Bush Intercontinental cannot take a surprise restart during a shift change. We test sizing changes against real usage, schedule them in your quiet window, and keep the previous configuration ready to restore.

Do you take over the subscription or work inside ours?

We work inside yours. The tenant, the subscription, and the data stay in your name so you can change providers without a migration project. We hold delegated administrative access that you can revoke at any time.

What about Microsoft 365 licensing? Is that included?

License review is part of the monthly work because it is usually where the fastest savings sit. We flag unused seats, duplicate add-ons, and cases where a bundled plan is cheaper than the pile of individual subscriptions you accumulated.

Azure Managed Services & Cost Optimization for Humble, Texas

Azure spending in northeast Houston tends to follow the same pattern: a project was funded, an environment was built, and then the person who understood it moved on. Around Humble that shows up in a few recognizable places. Freight and customs brokerage firms serving George Bush Intercontinental Airport built cloud environments to give around the clock staff access to shipment systems, and those virtual machines never turn off because someone is always on shift, which makes sizing and reserved pricing worth real money. Construction firms working Kingwood and Atascocita developments spin up project resources per job and rarely clean up when the job closes, so old environments quietly bill for years. Retailers along the FM 1960 and Deerbrook corridor size for holiday traffic and never scale back in February. Healthcare and occupational health providers connected to Memorial Hermann Northeast have the opposite issue: their environments are usually undersized on security rather than oversized on cost, with logging disabled and administrative accounts shared. All of these are solvable, and none of them get solved by the monthly invoice arriving and being paid. They get solved when one party owns the subscription and reports on it every month. Because Humble is in our on-site area, that review can be a conversation in your conference room.
