Azure Managed Services & Cost Optimization in Texas

Azure is easy to start and easy to leave running. Sentinel-Pros takes ownership of the environment day to day: patching, backups, identity, alerts, and a monthly review of what you are actually paying for and why. You keep the platform and lose the guesswork.

The Problem

Somebody stood up a few virtual machines during a project, a vendor added a database, and a developer spun up a test environment that never came down. Two years later the subscription holds resources nobody can name, the bill grows quietly every month, and the only person who understood the network design has moved on. Nobody is checking whether backups completed, whether the servers are patched, or whether an administrator account left over from a contractor still has full rights. When leadership asks what the cloud costs and what it protects, the honest answer is that the invoice is the only documentation.

The Solution

We take the environment as it stands, document it, and then run it. That means bringing every resource under a naming and tagging scheme so spend can be attributed to a department or a customer, hardening identity so administrative access is limited and monitored, and putting patching, backup verification, and alerting on a schedule that someone is accountable for. Cost work is continuous rather than a one-time cleanup: reservations and savings plans where the workload is steady, right-sizing where the machine was guessed at, storage tiering, and shutting down what is only needed during business hours. All of this is remote work, so we operate Azure for companies anywhere in Texas; Houston metro clients also get on-site support, and elsewhere any hands-on work is scheduled from Houston. Pricing is a fixed monthly retainer set on a discovery call.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

Core Responsibilities

Running The Environment

Patching and update rings for servers, with maintenance windows agreed in advance
Backup jobs monitored and restores tested rather than assumed
Alerting tuned so a real failure reaches a person and noise does not

Securing It

Administrative access limited, time-bound, and reviewed on a schedule
Network paths, public exposure, and open management ports audited and closed
Configuration measured against a documented baseline, with drift flagged

Controlling The Spend

Tagging that ties every resource to an owner, a project, or a cost centre
Right-sizing, storage tiering, and schedules for anything that idles overnight
Reservations and savings commitments applied only where usage is genuinely steady
HOW IT WORKS

Engagement Process

01

Inventory And Baseline

We catalogue every subscription, resource group, and orphaned disk, then establish what normal looks like for cost and performance. Most engagements find resources that have been billing for a year with nothing attached to them.

02

Fix What Is Unsafe First

Exposed management ports, standing administrative rights, missing multifactor authentication, and unverified backups get addressed before anything else. Cost work on an environment that is one stolen password from a bad week is the wrong order of operations.

03

Right-Size Against Real Usage

Once we have weeks of genuine telemetry we resize, tier storage, schedule non-production workloads to stop outside business hours, and commit only to reservations the usage actually supports. Guessing at capacity is what created the problem originally.

04

Operate And Report Monthly

Patching, backup verification, access reviews, and alert handling run continuously. Each month you get a short report on spend by owner, what changed, what was resolved, and what we recommend next, written for a business reader rather than an engineer.

FAQ

Common Questions

Do we lose control of our own Azure tenant?

No. The subscription stays in your name, under your billing agreement, with your leadership holding owner rights. We work inside roles you grant and can revoke. That matters at renewal time, because it means changing providers is an access decision, not a migration project.

How much can right-sizing actually save us?

It depends entirely on how the environment was built, so we will not put a number on it before looking. The savings usually come from three places: machines sized for a worst case that never happened, non-production workloads running around the clock, and storage sitting in a performance tier nothing needs. We show the specific line items and let you decide which to act on.

We are in Azure because a software vendor told us to. Is that a problem?

It is common and it is workable, but it changes what we can touch. Vendor-managed workloads often carry supportability rules about versions, regions, and configuration. We document those constraints up front so nobody optimizes a machine into an unsupported state and finds out during an incident.

Can you manage Azure for a company that is not near Houston?

Yes. Azure operations are entirely remote, so location makes no difference to the day-to-day work. Sentinel-Pros is a Houston firm and does not keep offices elsewhere; if a project requires hands on equipment at your site, we schedule that visit from Houston as part of the plan.

What happens if something breaks at two in the morning?

Alerts route to an on-call path rather than an inbox nobody reads until Monday. Which conditions justify waking someone is a decision we make with you during onboarding, because a failed backup and a downed production database do not deserve the same response. Everything is logged so the pattern behind repeat incidents becomes visible.

Across Texas

Azure ends up under a lot of Texas businesses for reasons that have nothing to do with a cloud strategy. Energy and oilfield services firms build reporting and modelling environments that spin up around drilling programs and then never spin down. Aerospace and defense suppliers near Fort Worth and San Antonio choose Azure because a prime contractor or a government customer accepts it, which makes region and configuration decisions contractual rather than technical. Healthcare groups, imaging centres, and behavioural health providers run vendor-specified workloads where the software company dictates the supported build. Austin and Dallas software firms host their own product there and discover the bill grew faster than the customer base. Logistics operators and customs brokers along the border corridor run integrations that must stay available while trucks are moving. Manufacturers and fabricators from the Gulf Coast to the Metroplex add historian and reporting systems next to plant equipment. Ranching, grain, and cotton operations in the Panhandle end up with a subscription because an agronomy or equipment platform required one. Very few of these companies employ anyone whose job is to watch an Azure bill or an access review, and none of them bought the platform in order to have that job. Operating it properly and keeping the spend honest is exactly the work that gets deferred until an invoice or an incident forces the issue.
