Cyber Insurance Readiness in Texas
Cyber policies now come with a control checklist attached, and the answers you give on the application become part of the contract. Sentinel-Pros makes sure those answers are true, that the required controls are in place, and that evidence exists if a claim is ever examined. The work is delivered remotely across Texas, with on-site support in Houston and travel scheduled from Houston elsewhere.
The Problem
Renewal season has turned into an audit that nobody prepared for. The application asks whether multifactor authentication protects remote access, email, and privileged accounts, whether backups are immutable and tested, whether endpoint detection is deployed everywhere, and whether privileged access is separated from daily accounts. Somebody in operations answers from memory, often generously, because a no in the wrong box means a declination or a premium the business cannot absorb. The trouble arrives later. A carrier can examine whether the represented controls were actually in place at the time of loss, and a company that attested to full multifactor coverage while three legacy service accounts sat exposed is arguing about coverage at the worst possible moment. Owners are also being surprised by sublimits, dependent business interruption terms, and social engineering exclusions they never read.
The Solution
We work the questionnaire as a technical exercise rather than a paperwork one. First we verify the current state of each control the application asks about, so every answer is grounded in something we can show. Where a gap exists, we tell you plainly whether it can be closed before the submission or whether the honest answer is no this year. Then we implement the controls carriers weight most heavily, capture evidence and configuration proof, and keep it filed so it can be produced on demand. We also read the policy alongside your broker, because the exclusions and sublimits determine what the coverage is worth. Delivery is remote for clients throughout Texas, since this runs on configuration review and documentation; Houston clients can have us on-site, and elsewhere we travel from Houston when hardware or a facility review calls for it. We are not brokers and we do not sell insurance. Pricing is a fixed monthly retainer scoped on a discovery call.

Engagement Process
Read The Application With You
We take the carrier questionnaire question by question and establish what the honest current answer is. Many owners find they qualify for more than they thought, and a few find the opposite before it becomes a problem.
Verify In The Environment
We check the controls rather than take them on faith: which accounts truly have multifactor, whether the backup restore has been tested, whether endpoint agents are on every machine including the forgotten ones.
Remediate What Is Reachable
Gaps get closed in the order that most affects insurability and real risk, with evidence captured as each one lands. Anything that cannot be closed before submission is flagged so the application stays accurate.
File The Evidence And Set The Calendar
The evidence package is organised so it can be produced during a claim or a renewal. We then set a recurring review so next year's application starts from documented reality rather than memory.
Where We Deliver This
Common Questions
Can a carrier really deny a claim over an application answer?
Representations on the application are part of the underwriting basis for the policy, and carriers do examine whether stated controls were in place when a loss occurred. That is exactly why we insist on verifying rather than guessing. The purpose of this engagement is that the answers you signed can be substantiated.
We were declined at renewal. Is that recoverable?
It often is. Declinations usually trace to a small number of controls that carriers treat as prerequisites, most commonly incomplete multifactor coverage, untested or non-immutable backups, and missing endpoint detection. We work those first and get you back to market with your broker.
Do you sell the policy or work for the carrier?
Neither. We are not brokers, we do not place coverage, and we take no commission. We work for you on the technical side, and we coordinate with whichever broker you already use. If your broker is doing a good job, we make their submission stronger.
Our operations are spread across several Texas cities. Does that complicate it?
Not much, because the controls carriers care about are identity, email, endpoints, and backups, all of which are verified and configured remotely. A branch in Abilene is assessed the same way as the head office. If a site has legacy on-premise equipment that must be inspected, we schedule that visit from Houston.
What does readiness work cost?
A fixed monthly retainer scoped on a discovery call, based on user count, systems in play, and how many controls need to be built rather than verified. Any new tooling required is quoted separately so you can see the difference between our work and product licensing.

Underwriters have grown specific about Texas risk, and the reasons vary by industry. Energy services and midstream firms working the Permian and the Eagle Ford now carry operational technology alongside office systems, and carriers ask harder questions when a claim could involve field equipment rather than only email. Gulf Coast manufacturers and marine services companies face dependent business interruption exposure, because a plant customer going down affects their revenue whether or not their own network was touched. Healthcare organisations statewide are quoted against breach notification costs that scale with patient record counts, which makes the underwriting conversation different for a clinic group in the Valley than for a services firm of the same headcount. Construction and engineering companies across the Interstate 35 corridor are frequent targets for wire fraud during draw and payment cycles, so social engineering terms and payment verification procedures get scrutinised closely. Technology firms in Austin and Dallas often carry contractual obligations to maintain specific coverage limits for their own customers, which makes a declination a sales problem as well as a risk problem. And every Texas business is underwritten against a backdrop of hurricanes, freezes, and grid events, so carriers expect continuity planning to be real rather than aspirational.
